Don’t stop believing

Looking around last night’s awesome Journey (rawk!) gig at the Manchester Apollo, it was hard to deny it: some years have passed since this band’s heyday. Arena’s advanced years, in fact, were cruelly brought home to us when we were standing at the back, squinting at the singer, going, “Is that Steve Perry?”

Younger fans, fans with glasses, and those who actually bother to keep up with the bands who made the soundtrack to their lives confirmed it: no, it isn’t. But it sure as sh*t sounds like him. Check it out:

Arnel Pineda is younger than you, and he sings like a guy old enough to be your dad. Apparently the old Journey found him on YouTube, singing with a band in the Philippines. Now he’s touring with them (dates still to come in Wolverhampton and some other places, details here).

That, friends, is why you don’t stop believing.
