It was with a heavy heart that I bade farewell to Anna Nicole Smith (below) last week. It’s always sad whenever anyone dies young, but when it’s one of your all-time favourite ‘big girls’… well, that’s just wrong.

I still remember the feverish excitement among the young cubs of Twickenham when the copy of her very-softcore Playboy video did the rounds. From what I recall, it was OK – until they included some shots of her going horse-riding with her son.

Christ knows what the producers were thinking of – maybe they wanted to show ‘the woman behind the rack’ – but when you’re strumming, an eight-year-old boy’s the last thing you want to see (unless you ‘party like that’, in which case you’re probably on the wrong website).

Still, Anna’s sad demise raises a pornographic conundrum: is it still OK (or even desirable) to crack one out to grumble featuring dead people?

I first ran into this thorny issue a couple of years back when Czech performer Lea de Mae died of brain cancer. Since then, it just hasn’t felt right watching any of her films. Then two months ago, British performer Vanessa Freeman was apparently gruesomely murdered. Again, since then it’s felt strangely disrespectful to knock one out while watching what was otherwise a pretty great performance.

I just hope that my porn stash hasn’t developed some kind of ‘Pharaoh’s Curse’ where everyone who features in it is getting picked off one at a time.
