The devil in Miss Jones

For some reason Norah Jones, the obscenely popular folky offspring of hippie sitar supremo Ravi Shankar, has found herself tie-dyed with the perhaps-unfair ‘dull as dishwater’ label.

True, one bar of her unique brand of aural wallpaper is like a syringe of Nytol to the Arena office, but while she was conquering dinner parties all over the world with her musical blandness (a third collection of which is out at the end of the month, if you’re that way inclined), there was always a glint to those eyes, a hint of suggestiveness to that smile… no, honestly, there was.

And now, thankfully, she’s mighty keen on proving it – and changing our collective mind into the bargain.

First she popped up on ex-Faith No More frontman (and all-round alternative-music top man) Mike Patton’s Peeping Tom album earlier in the year, heavy-breathing her way through such un-Norah lines as: “It’s boink-boink every minute, sucker, sucker / So keep it in your pants, boy, sucker, sucker / What makes you think you’re my only lover? / The truth kinda hurts don’t it, motherfucker?”

Now she’s gone all ‘femme fatale secretary who’ll reduce you to a shell of a man with one flick of her hair’ on this shoot for one of the last remaining decent music mags, Mojo, from which we’ve nabbed some exclusive pics just for you.

An obvious ploy, perhaps, but a welcome one all the same. Keep up the good work, Jonesy, you’re winning us round. Now for that ‘difficult’ double-kick-drum, death-metal fourth album, and we’re fully paid-up fan-club members.
