Stitches in time
Burton is the tailor that provided Sean Connery’s white tux in Goldfinger and dressed England’s 1966 World Cup team.
Now it’s celebrating its distinguished sartorial history with the launch of Heritage, a new range of quality contemporary suits, inspired by original 1940s, ’50s and ’60s designs and brought up to date with a sharper, modern fit.
The key to the collection is its attention to detail. The jackets feature half canvas construction that forms to the body, giving the wearer more comfort, while the fabric selections of Prince Of Wales check and pinstripes have been inspired by the Burton archives.
The suits are made from pure merino wool and woven in the British mill first used by Montague Burton over 70 years ago. They feature intricate detailing, such as trouser brace buttons and an embroidered Burton ‘B’ on the under collar.
The Heritage range is complemented by a limited edition coat, restricted to 100 pieces, inspired by an original RAF great coat produced by Burton during the Second World War. The coat is a wool and cashmere mix, made in Italy and retails at £180
Montague Burton once said, “good clothes develop a man’s sense of self-respect”. Looks like the Heritage collection is set to continue his legacy.
Heritage tailoring is available online and at Burton stores in London, Bluewater, Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Chesterfield and Dublin. Suits start at £169 for a two-piece.
